We are seeking an experienced Temporary Legal Counsel to support Marketing, eCommerce, Sustainability, Quality Assurance, and Intellectual Property initiatives. This role will provide practical, business-focused legal guidance on advertising, marketing, promotions, product claims, and brand protection in a fast-paced consumer products environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Review advertising, marketing, promotional, social media, and consumer-facing materials for legal compliance.
- Evaluate claims substantiation and advise on product, comparative, health, environmental, and sustainability claims.
- Counsel marketing, eCommerce, product, sales, and innovation teams on campaigns, product launches, packaging, and promotions.
- Advise on digital marketing, influencer programs, sweepstakes, contests, loyalty programs, and consumer protection matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate marketing and IP-related agreements, including NDAs, licenses, influencer, agency, sponsorship, content, and vendor agreements.
- Provide guidance on trademark, copyright, licensing, branding, content clearance, and rights-of-publicity matters.
- Support trademark portfolio activities and coordinate with outside counsel as needed.
- Develop practical legal guidance, templates, and training materials for business teams.
Qualifications
- JD required and active CT or NY Bar membership (or equivalent in-house counsel eligibility).
- 5+ years of legal experience in a law firm, government agency, or corporate legal department.
- Strong experience advising on advertising, marketing, consumer protection, and claims substantiation matters.
- Working knowledge of trademarks, copyrights, licensing, and related intellectual property issues.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, analytical, and project management skills.
- Ability to provide clear, practical legal advice and work independently in a fully remote environment.
- Prior in-house experience supporting consumer products, retail, or eCommerce businesses is preferred.
